Waldensian and Methodist Synod/6. Fifty years of female pastorate

Rome (NEV), September 6, 2017 – The Synodal assembly, convened in Torre Pellice (20-25 august), recalled that during the 1967 Synod, Carmen Trobia and Gianna Sciclone were consacrated pastors, first women to access to this ministry. Pastor Letizia Tomassone explained that today the 40% of the Waldensian and Methodist pastors and deacons are women. In the past decades women have achieved the full recognition in the pastoral role and in the church government, and have enriched the church of new perspectives, integrating into the communities issues such as the struggle against gender violence and the protection of minors. Women presence in the church also urges men to work on their partialities and prejudices.
