Lampedusa. Catholics and Protestants together for migrants’ rights

Rome (NEV), January 26, 2018 – The Federation of Protestant Churches in Italy (FCEI), the Migrantes Foundation (pastoral organism of the Italian Bishop’s Conference) – and the parish of San Gerlando in Lampedusa, signed on January 22 last, an agreement of ecumenical fraternity for the opening on the island of an ‘infopoint’ for asylum seekers and migrants.
This help desk, opened in collaboration with father Carmelo La Magra in the parish premises, will benefit of the work of the operators and the volunteers of Mediterranean Hope, the FCEI program for refugees and migrants, and of the Migrantes Foundation.

“It is not a coincidence that this agreement was signed in the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity – commented both father Gianni de Robertis, general director of the Migrantes Foundation, and Paolo Naso – coordinator of Mediterranean Hope -. It is the signal of an active ecumenism that identifies in the reception of migrants and in the protection of their rights, a priority area of commitment and Christian witness”.
