Rome (NEV), September 14, 2018 – “Dear Minister, the organizations of the National Asylum Table, for years engaged throughout the Country in the field of reception of migrants and asylum seekers, in relation to the draft of Law by decree on “Urgent provisions on the issue of temporary residence permits for humanitarian needs as well as on international protection, immigration and citizenship”, call for an urgent meeting to express their concerns about the serious consequences of the measures announced, based on the experience gained by the territorial networks and from the direct relationship with the people involved, with the territories and with the public administration”.  This is the text of the letter sent on September 7 to the Minister of the Interior Matteo Salvini by the organizations * of the National Asylum Table which includes the Federation of Protestant Churches in Italy (FCEI).
The National Asylum Table intends to send a similar text to the Constitutional Affairs and Social Affairs Committees of the Chamber and of the Senate, asking to be audited during the discussion on this Law by decree.
Regarding the Migrants Decree, whose text was issued on September 7, the FCEI issued on the same date a press release by Paolo Naso, coordinator of Mediterranean Hope – Program for refugees and migrants of the Federation of Protestant Churches in Italy (FCEI), in which he emphasizes the position of the Protestant churches, ready to associate themselves “to the Catholic and secular forces that – in Italy and in Europe – contrast the climate of intolerance and xenophobia fueled by the hammering provisions of the Interiors Ministry”.
