Bethany Protestant Hospital. The celebration of the 50th anniversary

The 50th anniversary of the Bethany Protestant Hospital Foundation was  celebrated, from October 17th to 20th last, with a big party and an international conference on religious health in Italy and in the world

Rome (NEV), October 19, 2018 – “The 50 years of the hospital are a concrete demonstration that we can make solidarity and sustainable health at the same time. Solidarity with others and economic sustainability, accompanied by the passion of our employees, have been the strategic cornerstones of our structure. They have been so for fifty years and will be so for the future”. These are the words of Luciano Cirica –  president of the Bethany Protestant Foundation and of the homonymous Hospital – in presenting the activities planned for the celebration of the anniversary of the fiftieth anniversary of the structure.
The Bethany Protestant Hospital was opened in October 1968 by Dr. Teofilo Santi, in Ponticelli – one of the most complicated and populous districts of Naples.  Over the years the Hospital represented a point of reference, not only from the health point of view, offering medical, human and spiritual assistance to the most marginalized, and in recent years, to migrants without a residence permit.
“This Protestant work, belonging to the Protestant churches, was inspired and sustained by faith, but it was never conceived as a confessional and ‘religious’ work, but rather as a place of care according to a logic of ‘compassion’ and health as globally understood. Today we have become a recognized structure integrated into the National Health System, equivalent to public ones, as per aims, organization and quality”, explained Cirica.

On 19 October the international conference “Solidarity and Sustainable Health” was attended by Italian and international experts. The event included two sessions, on religious health and on the economic sustainability of hospitals and health care in general.
A Protestant worship service will celebrated on October 20, followed by the assignment of a commemorative medal to the employees. During the afternoon, guests were invited to join in a guided tour of the hospital.

The celebrations ended with a concert of the Korean Choir of Rome.
