Naso (FCEI): The “Security Decree” creates insecurity

Rome (NEV), December 7, 2018 – “In the absence of serious and effective repatriation policies, the “Salvini Decree” will have as its sole consequence the increase of people in conditions of irregularity and therefore of social exclusion. The very premises to create more insecurity, both for migrants and for Italians”. This is the comment of Paolo Naso, coordinator of Mediterranean Hope, the refugees and migrants program of the Federation of Protestant Churches in Italy (FCEI), after the final approval of the so-called “Security Decree” by the Chamber of Deputies.

FCEI, together with other associations working for integration and reception (Asylum Desk), issued a press release explaining the critical issues that this law will introduce in the reception system at social, constitutional and international field.

“The Protestant churches will multiply their efforts to welcome these people in dignity and spirit of service, but it is clear that a revision of this norm is needed. We therefore appeal to mayors and municipalities – concluded Naso in the press release -, who will be the first to suffer the effects of this provision, to ask for appropriate and effective measures to avoid social tearing and a real humanitarian crisis in one of the most difficult weather periods of the year”.
