Earthquake. FCEI stretches its hands to the population of Arquata del Tronto and Tolentino

Rome (NEV), November 30, 2016 – The subscription launched by the Federation of Protestant Churches in Italy (FCEI) following the earthquake of last August 24th, collected by now 132,000 euros. After making the necessary local surveys and got in touch with local authorities, the ad hoc Committee appointed by FCEI Council, has selected the areas of interest and arranged targeted actions. The president of FCEI, pastor Luca Maria Negro explained that FCEI will offer a prefabricated construction to function as multipurpose centre for social activities in Arquata del Tronto (Ascoli Piceno). Here, always according to the Municipality request, FCEI has already donated a minibus to serve, among other things, as link with the population displaced to Ascoli or to the Adriatic coast. In Tolentino (Macerata) FCEI is working in cooperation with the Baptist Church of Civitanova Marche, to guarantee masonry and painting works in the post-earthquake. In addition a professional washing machine was bought for the municipal rest home “Porcelli” plus ten lockers for the local school which is going to reopen next December 12th.

FCEI treasurer Roberto Mellone, recalls that the subscription is still open and that in case more money is collected, other projects may be considered by FCEI Council.

The Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) in Italy opened the doors of its headquarters in Rieti to house 20 people and to reactivate the refectory which is producing about 100-150 meals per day, to help the populations hit by the earthquakes. ADRA is also distributing miscellaneous material to the camp of Porto Recanati run by the Civil Defence.

Also the Salvation Army is involved in relief actions: they delivered a caravan to Norcia for the reception of displaced persons, and tables for the refectory to Illica (Rieti).
