Milanese Protestants: a silent demonstration for migrant’s citizenship rights

On October 31, to celebrate the Reformation Day, the Milanese Protestants organized a silent demonstration in the central Piazza dei Mercanti, to support the rights of the “new Italians”

Rome (NEV), November 11, 2017 – The Milanese Protestant churches celebrated the Reformation Day with a silent demonstration for the “ius soli”. On Tuesday 31 October – the date in which in 1517 Martin Luther affixed the 95 thesis against the indulgences, thus starting the Protestant Reformation – the Milanese Protestants met in the central Piazza dei Mercanti and protested against the Senate delay in the discussion of the law to grant citizenship to young migrants of second generation, the “new Italians”.

The event concluded the 15 days of a “relay fasting” to which the Baptist, Methodist and Waldensian churches of Milan participated. Pastor Daniela Di Carlo informed that more than 90 people joined the initiative, which consisted in abstaining from food for 24h and then in passing the baton to the person who started the following day.
