Rome (NEV), December 1st, 2017 – On the occasion of the opening of a new ‘humanitarian corridor’ from Ethiopia, the president of the Federation of Protestant Churches in Italy (FCEI), pastor Luca Maria Negro and the moderator of the Waldensian Church, pastor Eugenio Bernardini, sent a letter of support and congratulations to the Secretary General of the Italian Bishops’ Conference (CEI), Msgr. Nunzio Galantino, to the president of the Community of St. Egidio, Marco Impagliazzo and to the president of the Italian Caritas, cardinal Francesco Montenegro.

“The humanitarian corridors were born less than two years ago as a small Italian experiment, with a clear ecumenical intent”, the letter reads and continues underlining how “the creative and determined witness of churches and believers can help the building of fair policies for the protection of human rights, reception and integration of those fleeing from conflicts, persecutions, violence and exploitation”.
The letter also refers to the engagement at European level and to the common action of Italian Catholics and Protestants, an action that has an important impact on the public debate invoking international choices and strategies focused on fundamental rights.

The new humanitarian corridor was inaugurated yesterday, November 30, with the arrival of 25 people at the airport of Rome-Fiumicino.
