Italian Protestant women and gender violence

On occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, the Federation of Protestant Women in Italy (FDEI) published a collection of stories and information about violence and discrimination

Rome (NEV), November 20, 2018 – The booklet “Equal dignity and rights. 16 days to win violence” opens with excerpts from the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and of the Constitution of the Italian Republic. As for many years now, the brochure is edited by journalist Gianna Urizio and is dedicated by the Federation of Protestant Women in Italy (FDEI) to the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, celebrated worldwide on November 25.

“After 70 years from promulgation, we wanted to pay a tribute to these two Documents: extraordinary words of equality which today are not so meaningful to new generations”, said Urizio in presenting the work.
Each of the 16 pages that make up the notebook contains a variety of suggestions and information based on quotations from the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the Constitution of the Italian Republic and focuses on true stories of women victims of violence, marginalization, exploitation, and prejudice. Every page has a biblical verse to stimulate reflection, a prayer and an open question to invite readers to think over the meaning of the times we are living. At the end, a useful bibliography on the theme of human rights in general, and of women in particular, and suggestions on novels and films on this topic.
