Rome (NEV), October 12 2019 – On the occasion of World Day for Decent Work, 7 October, the Globalization and Environment Commission (GLAM) of the Federation of Protestant Churches in Italy (FCEI) drew the attention to this issue and to the need that decent and sustainable work be at the center of governments’ actions and of a global economy focused on people.

GLAM,  since the beginning of its commitment, considered it important to start a shared reflection on the theme of work, its dignity and sustainability. An organizational group coordinated by GLAM created a Caravan for the dignity and sustainability of work that in 2015 crossed Italy from South to North, collected reflections along its path and connected the material histories of many citizens.

“The theme of this year’s World Day for Decent Work, Investing in the care for gender equality’, –  GLAM says – calls for a reflection on investment in care, which is fundamental to achieving gender equality in work and in society, to improve wages and working conditions and stimulate economic vitality at a time when the global economy is fragile and workers’ families pay the consequences.

Care work, fundamental in ensuring dignity and health in our societies, is significantly undervalued and characterized by poor wages and conditions”.
