Rome (NEV / CELI), July 19, 2020 – “The Council of the Lutheran Evangelical Church in Italy (CELI) is concerned about the social impact of the CORONAVIRUS pandemic, especially in regard to the situation of women, not only in Italy but worldwide”. The CELI website made this known in reporting the fears of the members of the executive, the dean Heiner Bludau, the vice dean Kirsten Thiele, the CELI legal representative, Cordelia Vitiello, the treasurer Ingrid Pfrommer, Angelo Ruggieri, Georg Schedereit and Wolfgang Prader. The Consistory shares what is expressed in the open letter “Women for a new Renaissance” of the Federation of Protestant Women in Italy (FDEI) to the Council of Ministers and to the Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte, in which it is asked that women and their needs be put at the center of the post COVID-19 recovery: “Health, personal freedom, public safety, road safety, schools, cultural services and institutions must have at their center the issue of rights for all and for each person”. Unequal treatment, economic dependence, load of domestic work and care, job insecurity and domestic violence, are just some of the issues that CELI highlights, according to data, underlining the need for a commitment in favor of women and their rights, for an evolution and growth of the whole society.
