Organ donation. The Waldensians sign a protocol

The Waldensian Board signed a collaboration agreement with the Italian Association for the donation of organs, tissues and cells

Rome (NEV), July 27, 2019 – On July 20th last, in Torre Pellice (Turin), at the headquarters of the Waldensian Board, the moderator Eugenio Bernardini and the president of the Italian Association for the donation of organs, tissues and cells (AIDO) for Piedmont, Valter Mione, signed a collaboration agreement.

“The issue of organ transplantation is the subject of a study document drawn up in 1995 by the Bioethics Commission of the Waldensian, Methodist and Baptist churches – reads the site www. chiesavaldese.org -. The stipulation of the protocol aims to promote joint actions to increase citizens’ education in solidarity and donation. The purpose of the agreement is also to encourage the creation of volunteers groups  to operate in the area and to give information on the various initiatives undertaken”.
“Despite the great progress made in recent years – said the moderator Bernardini – the culture of donation is not yet sufficiently widespread so that, when the concrete case is presented, families do not feel prepared and serene. And above all, people are not sure to have the necessary information to make an aware decision. Hence the commitment of our churches”.
