Earthquake Albania. Condolences of the Italian Baptist Church

Messages of closeness and proposals for help continue to arrive from the churches after the earthquake that caused dozens of victims

Rome (NEV), December 9, 2019 – Prayers and condolences for the earthquake in Albania come from various religious bodies.
The president of the Christian evangelical Baptist Union of Italy (UCEBI), Giovanni Paolo Arcidiacono, sent on November 28 a message of closeness and affection to the Albanian Baptist Union. In the letter the president expressed “condolences and closeness for the serious earthquake that struck our Albanian brothers and sisters”. “Please let us know what we can do to help you”, continued Arcidiacono, who calls for closeness and trust “in these moments of anxiety and uncertainty, in the knowledge that God is always present in afflictions”, quoting the prophet Isaiah (41 : 10): “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you, I swill uphold you with my righteous right hand” .
The autocephalous Orthodox Church of Albania immediately activated and expressed the will to offer refuge to the displaced persons in the structures of the Monastery of Santa Maria, owned by the city church. Among other things, a special headquarter was established with the coordination of the metropolitan of Apollonia and Fier, Hirësi Nikolla, and of Gjerasim Çakalli for the collection of basic necessities, blankets, clothing.
