The alarm comes from the Dioceses, the Waldensian Diaconia, the Provincial Association of Retirement Homes and the Confcooperative Cuneo, in a joint statement issued on March 15. Rome (NEV), 27 March 2021 – Several homes for the elderly are at risk of closing in one of the Italian regions most affected by the pandemic, Piedmont. The cry of alarm comes from the Dioceses, the Waldensian Diaconia, the Provincial Association of Rest Homes and the Confcooperative Cuneo. On March 15, these bodies issued a new joint statement, following that of five months ago, addressed to the Piedmont Region and to the President of the Council, Alberto Cirio, so that timely and adequate measures are taken to address the serious crisis that involves the retirement homes. The writers strongly ask not to let these territorial realities die – to date only in the province of Cuneo and in the Pinerolo area there are about 4,600 accredited beds and about 3000 workers – : “These activities very often are the engines of the most marginal realities, and it is urgent not to deny the problem by sticking the head in the sand, waiting for the criticality to resolve itself, with the closure of the structures. In order to protect guests, families and all workers who, for various reasons, are involved, we strongly ask that the Piedmont Region, through its Departments, immediately take concrete and effective actions, in support of the entire sector of the Piedmontese retirement homes”.
